Caterpillar has introduced its new 350 excavator model. It offers high digging force and powerful swing torque, offering up to 13% less fuel consumption than the Cat 349. “Caterpillar is committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions greenhouse while helping our customers meet their climate goals,” said Brian Abbott, Caterpillar global product manager for Large Hydraulic Excavators. “The 350 is our latest example of delivering on that commitment.”
Upper level
The new 350 can be equipped with up to a 3.1 cubic meter bucket. The excavator has a maximum reach of 12 meters at ground level and a maximum loading height of 7.4 meters. It also offers a maximum digging depth of 8 meters. Powered by a Cat C9.3B engine, the excavator offers three power modes to further reduce fuel consumption. Engine oil and fuel filters are timed for 1.000 hour service, increasing uptime and reducing parts and labor costs. The hydraulic oil filter offers a 3.000 hour replacement interval, a 50% increase over the previous design. With ambient temperature capability up to 51º and cold start function with automatic hydraulic warm-up function at -17º, the machine can work in various climates. An optional cold start function allows the excavator to operate at -31º.
Standard technology
Overall, the new 350 comes with a number of standard Cat technologies. Cat Payload provides precise load targets and increased loading efficiency, helping to prevent truck overloading or underloading. Data can be viewed through a VisionLink connection or by downloading to a USB drive. The optional Cat Stick Steer makes it easy to shift and turn. For truck loading and trenching, Swing Assist automatically stops the excavator swing at operator-defined set points. With the standard Cat Grade 2D system comes depth grade, and horizontal distance grade guidance via the standard touch screen monitor. Standard Grade Assist automates boom, stick and bucket movements so operators can stay on grade with the dig with a single lever. That system can be easily upgraded to Cat Grade with Advanced 2D or Cat Grade 3D via a second touch screen monitor. All Cat Grade systems are compatible with radios and base stations from leading third-party technology providers. Operators can store up to four depth and slope offsets to cut to grade without a grade checker. The 350 also has an automatic hydraulic hammer stop, which warns operators after 15 seconds of continuous pounding and then shuts the hammer off after 30 seconds to prevent wear. Auto dig boost and auto lift increase bucket penetration and lift capacity by 8%, and Cat Lift Assist helps operators prevent the machine from tipping over while lifting heavy objects with visual and audible alerts to indicate if the load is within the safety limits.
Max. comfort
The deluxe cab incorporates large windows for high visibility, automatic climate control and a heated seat. The left seat console tilts up to make it easy to get in and out of the cab. Standard features include a push button keyless start and a touch screen monitor with keys for machine control. An Operator ID access code allows engine start, and operator ID can save and restore user, and joystick button preferences for individual operators. In addition, Product Link collects telematics data and provides operational insights to the fleet manager and operator, while enabling remote troubleshooting, flash updating and more.
